Double and triple flame lamination

Foam-based laminated products are direct flame bonded multilayer materials with special type of foam being an adhesive agent and bearing material.

Different types of PU-foam can be used for lamination. Depending on raw material the final product might be applied in various industries including shoe, furniture, car industry, etc. Double- and triple-layer materials are mostly applied because they ensure a lot better appearance, durability and soundproofing properties of a product.

Double-ply flame lamination – it is a manufacturing process of a multi-layer product consisting of PU-foam layer and 1 or 2 layers of flexible materials (fabric, leather, leatherette, etc.) Layers get bonded due to melting of the upper PU-foam layer being passed over an open flame.

Additional layer of cloth or nonwoven fabric is applied onto foam surface melted by heat impact. At the end we get a multilayer material with a higher strength characteristic.

Far from all types of foam can be flame laminated. The material must meet specific hardness, softness, flexibility and fire-safety requirements.

Normally the following foam grades are used for flame lamination:



E30-07 (polyester-based).

Double-ply and triple-ply laminated foam are most spread. The foam-based material resulting from the above lamination has improved flexibility, strength, and soundproof characteristics.

Our experience in the production of this material has allowed to support car manufacturers’ (Mitsubishi, Hyundai) effort to allocate component parts suppliers inside Russia. FoamLine supplies such elements as seats and doors covering.
